L-R: Coleman A. Young II and James Harris
The Detroit News editorial page has endorsed incumbent Coleman A. Young II and James Harris, community relations chief for the Detroit Fire Department, for the two at-large Detroit Council seats. There are four candidates.
Young has proven to be a thoughtful policymaker and an advocate for city residents in balancing the concerns of residents with the need to attract economic development to the city.
Harris has spent 28 years with the department and presents himself as a candidate of the people. He brings broad knowledge of Detroit's neighborhoods, as well as the perspective of a city employee.
